A fight has been ongoing for some time in Atlantic City between casino employees in the Local 54 union and the casinos of Atlantic City. Casinos have been suffering as of the past few years in the gambling city due to low revenues with casinos beginning to shut down back in 2014. In the past few years, the union has made concessions to the casinos of Atlantic City and now want more benefits and higher wages.

A strike is scheduled to take place on the 1st of July and if it does, several casinos will be affected. Those in the line of fire include Bally’s, Caesars, Harrah’s, Tropicana and Trump Taj Mahal. Three casino would remain active with employees and would include the Resorts Casino, Golden Nugget and the Borgata.

A deal still could be reached between the union and the casinos before the strike is schedule to take place or negotiations could be made so that employees remain in operation while talks are ongoing.

The city is facing several issues in regards to the gambling industry. The financial situation of Atlantic City is in dire need, just barely missing out on being taken over by the state. Loans have helped for now but it could be that the state takes over in the coming months. Land based casinos are not earning revenues as expected with numbers continuing to decrease each month. Casinos in the northern portion of the state may be up for consideration but this could be harmful to Atlantic City casinos that are already struggling.

So for now, the city simply waits to see what will happen. Revenues will be drastically impacted for the month of July if the strike does take place and casinos are unable to operate due to lack of employees on site.
