Last week, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board hosted a meeting where several decisions were made. The SugarHouse Casino will now be rebranded as the Rivers Philadelphia and the first mini-casino for the state was approved. Both of these events made headlines last week. However, it seems that one announcement did not draw a lot of attention but could be monumental.
The Mount Airy Casino Resort announced a new spotsbook/poker room combo for their property. Photo renderings were provided which showed the Mount Airy logo as well as The Stars Group. So, will the casino be offering a PokerStars branded poker room?
Information was provided about the new sportsbook/poker room but officials did not say if it would be branded after PokerStars. The Gypsies Night Club of the casino will be transformed into the new space, offering 12 poker tables in 3,200 square feet of space. This will be three more than the original poker room of the casino.
The casino will also be adding a new convention area where tournaments could be hosted. With complete speculation, we could imagine that if PokerStars had a land-based poker room at the casino, they would use their well-known brand to host big tournament events.
PokerStars is currently only in operation online in the state of New Jersey. The brand was expected to launch a poker room at the Resorts Casino but those plans were voided after it was found that poker was not as big of a draw as expected in the region.
It could be that Pennsylvania is a prime spot for PokerStars to get back on track with their land-based plans since things did not end up as expected in New Jersey. Hopefully in the new few weeks or months, Mount Airy will reveal even more plans, letting poker players know if their offering will include PokerStars branding.
